Lewes High Street Traders started this petition to East Sussex County Council and

ESCC are proposing to put barriers along Lewes High Street to enable social distancing. This would mean losing 30 plus parking bays and at least one disabled bay plus access to dropped kerbs. There is inadequate parking in the town and the pavements highlighted for enlarging are already wide enough.

Local businesses are already suffering due to COVID19 and having unsightly barriers plus no parking options would finish off the High Street that we are immensely proud of. A lot of shops do rely of people parking close by to pick up heavy items and to give a sense of freedom to anyone with mobility issues.

Please help us to get ESCC to rethink this scheme.

The barriers are intended to be in place until at least December so would severely impact our small town right up until Christmas.

We understand the need for safe shopping but there are areas of Lewes that haven't been thought about and the one area they are highlighting is wide enough and the barriers  and lack of parking would have a huge impact on local traders, delivery drivers, banking customers and a lot more.

Please help!
