Ann Viteri-Jackson started this petition to East Meadow Community

Please help East Meadow Girl Scout Troop 1281 earn their silver award. The East Meadow community has grown since the East Meadow Post Office was established back in the 1950’s. East Meadow Avenue has also undergone massive development since then and has seen unprecedented traffic to the post office and the park next to it. As the neighborhood continues to grow, there is a growing need for improved traffic and pedestrian safety.
The post office’s entrance is on East Meadow Ave, it features no pedestrian crosswalk, stop sign, or traffic light in proximity. Pedestrians are forced to dodge traffic to cross the street. As well as drivers who park their cars to use the post office must wait, to open their door and get out of the car, for traffic to stop of slow down. Throughout the day they wait extended periods of time for a gap in the constant and increasing volume of traffic.
It is only a matter of time before a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle. Cars do not expect pedestrians to be moving through that intersection, even though it is extremely common. Help us call on the Nassau County Department of Transportation to help us make this section safer for the East Meadow Community to mail or pick-up a package. This is our first digital petition to get as many people as possible aware of this situation. We did a meet the community with our in-person petition at the local Walmart, Stop and Shop and Stew Leonard stores. We discussed the benefit of this crosswalk.
