A quick drive by of our downtown will show you just how run down the area looks. Chipped paint, broken down roads, buildings slowly and surely falling apart as well as over half of our buildings being vacant. Here we have a new business trying to start up in our Downtown and make it look great again and our board is worried about the color sceme of the building now clashing with the rest of the town. Quickly skim through the comments on The Morning Journal page and you will realize that nobody is having an issue with this paint on the storefront, most people of various age groups even praising the store's owners for bringing a new aspect of life into our once great Downtown area. The store owner even callled before painting and was given the okay to paint as desired but now has to remove it at their expensive! Yes, the colors don't match the history of the town but I'm sure those who remember Downtown as being a place full of businnesses would rather have a bright and colorful new age store front than the vacant and empty ones we have become so accustomed to seeing in our town. Look to the future to grow the city instead of backwards to what worked in the past if you want the town to not only survive but to also thrive.
