Class of 2019: Reelection

0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!

Here at East Islip High School, our teachers and staff preach to us on the policies of honesty and fairness; however, our class of 2019 election had been turned in the opposite direction. Our former class president, Maggie Ruland, was unfortunately not reelected into office for the upcoming school year. As there was a significant percentage of our class who advocated and supported the campaign of our fellow classmate, we were all extremely confused as to how the election could have possibly swayed in the opposing direction. Lo and behold although the words cannot be confirmed, multiple students were unaware of the election for their classes were not given the opportunity to vote. With a class size 282 students, it was said that between 4-5 CLASSES of students were not given this chance, which hypothetically speaking 22 students per class would bring us to approximately 35% of our body who were deprived of their opinions and voices being heard.

Throughout the year at our class meetings, our "democracy" has been shut down in instances including our choice for spirit week where the majority ruled in one direction, but nepotism over-powered our decision.

Our candidate, Maggie Ruland has been working effortlessly during her presidency to make the rest of our high school experience unforgettable. With starting to plan our junior prom, already booking a venue for our senior prom, creating multiple ways to present the idea of a senior class trip, and brainstorming appropriate fundraisers like a class color run and sumou wrestling fundraiser, Maggie has been active during her time in office.

With your help, we can demand a fair and proper recount in which EVERYONE is given the chance to stand their ground and make a statement about their beliefs and vote with a third party representative counting the ballots as needed. Please sign the petition as necessary to demand a recount on our 2017-2018 Junior Class President.
