Do you live in Enfield or Elmsdale? Do your children attend Enfield District School or Tots Academy Childcare? Are you concerned about traffic volumes and with preserving the integrity of this amazing community?

The Municipality of East Hants has received two separate development applications that include the construction of FIVE multi-level apartment complexes in the White Estates subdivision. Taken together, these proposals will add 348 unit dwellings to the lower end of this residential subdivision (R1 and R2).

Growth and development are positive things! We should be proud that people want to live and work in our community. But these proposals are not consistent with our existing community and arguably do not align with the East Hants Municipal Planning Strategy.

Due to the significant impact these large developments will have on our whole community, we are seeking your support in communicating our concerns to municipal planning staff and Councillors.

By signing, you are indicating that you do not support the construction of large multiplexes inside existing single-dwelling, residential subdivisions.

Our concerns include:

- These high-density developments do not protect the nature of the existing residential neighborhoods.

- The proposed multiplexes are 4 and 6 storeys tall. This exceeds the maximum of 3 storeys outlined in the Land Use By-Law. The developer has requested a rezoning to bypass this barrier.

- The approval of these proposals as submitted will result in an increase in local traffic upwards of 522 cars plus the commercial traffic drawn to the commercial space on Highway 2. Access to the multiplexes will come from White Rd/Lacy Anne and Catherine St., adding significantly to the existing peak-time access issues.

- Neither the developer nor the municipal staff have been able to provide information indicating that these proposals provide adequate access for Emergency vehicles. The largest of the two proposals indicates that access will be by way of "driveways" onto White Rd. and Lacy Anne.

- We have safety concerns related to the number of vehicles, the location of the access points and the strong likelihood of on-street parking at the lower ends of these two streets.
