Our current goal is to create a Trap Neuter Vaccinate & Manage (TNVM) program in East Hanover with the help of volunteers. The program will be at NO COST to the town of East Hanover. Volunteers would be able to successfully and easily help countless cats using donated funds only. The Residents plan to collaborate and coordinate with the town to manage the community cats with TNVM without any fear of being issued fines for feeding them. Feeding allows us to observe the health of the colony cats and, to also notice if new (additional) cats are [born] or - placed there. We will bring the cats to a vet to be evaluated and given vaccinations for rabies, spay/neutered & ear tipped for identification. Eventually, all of the cat colonies will be managed & their population, in turn- reduced. This plan of action greatly benefits the residents of East Hanover and the community cats as well as they would not be euthanized for a reason that could easily have been prevented. Euthanizing innocent cats does NOT lower the population because many new cats tend to be born, and others are dropped off. TNVM programs are proven to be effective in controlling community cat populations. Neighboring towns such as Parsippany, Livingston and also Hanover have experienced great success with this type of program, and East Hanover should also have this put into place.
