Please sign this petition urging the East Goshen Township Board of Supervisors NOT to amend the R-2 Zoning Ordinance.

East Goshen Township held a meeting on October 25, 2018 to hear a proposal regarding a potential amendment to the R-2 Zoning Ordinance for properties greater than 20 acres.  Currently this ordinance states that only one single family detached home is permitted on land zoned R-2, at a max density of one unit per acre.  It is proposed that the R-2 Zoning Ordinance be amended to allow for carriage homes (twins) and townhomes (triplexes) on one acre lots, while not increasing building density on properties greater than 20 acres.

There are four 20+ acre properties in East Goshen Township.  The one currently in question (980 Hershey Mill Rd), did not sell when previously listed, likely because much of the land isn’t suitable for development.  Under the current R-2 Zoning Ordinance, it isn’t financially attractive to a developer since so few single family detached homes could be constructed. While every property owner has the right to develop their property, they must do so within the constraints of the rules and regulations currently in existence.

The majority of residents that spoke at the meeting were NOT in favor of amending the R-2 Zoning Ordinance.  Nonetheless, at the conclusion of the meeting, a motion was made and approved by the Board of Supervisors to further research dwelling types, get more of a sense of what the area in question could look like, and draft an amendment to the R-2 Zoning Ordinance. It is concerning that despite the overwhelming objections of East Goshen Township residents, the EGT Board of Supervisors has approved a motion to proceed with further research at the expense of EGT taxpayers.

It was stated at the end of the meeting that the Board of Supervisors will only approve the R-2 Zoning amendment if they feel it is in the “best interests” of EGT residents.

Please make your voice heard if you are not in favor of amending this regulation!  Let’s preserve what little open space East Goshen Township still has left. East Goshen Township already has a good mix of housing types (41% single family detached, 26% townhomes, 33% multifamily — apartments and condominiums). Greenery and open space are what attract so many to this area. Let’s protect open space, property values, and the wildlife that inhabit this undeveloped land.

The Board of Supervisors are elected officials – elected by us.  If you are opposed, please join us in letting them know.  Sign this petitionE-mail Board of Supervisors Chairman Marty Shane and cc Township Manager Rick Smith and Zoning Officer Mark Gordon expressing your opinion.  Sign up to be notified of EGT Planning Commission and Zoning Hearing Board meetings via Constant Contact.
