East Dunbartonshire council have decided to withdraw funding of essential dementia services at Whitehill Court in Kirkintilloch. Therefore there will be no day services, evening services or Mary's kitchen which enabled families to dine together in a familiar, comfortable and safe environment. Many staff will also be made redundant as a result. Bield who run the service had designed a new build day centre but East Dunbartonshire are now not supporting this. People who use this service are vulnerable and their carers often need respite. East Dunbartonshire council have removed choice from these families and their solution is to send people elsewhere in the area to services that do not offer the same support.
East Dunbartonshire council should reverse their decision. Support the new day centre and it's services and enable Whitehill Court to keep providing excellent support as they have been for over 20 years.
