Cease the proposal to merge Lenzie Primary and Lenzie Moss Primary Schools
This petition had 52 supporters
East Dunbartonshire Council has been carrying out a review of their Primary School Estate triggered by concerns with falling school rolls. Their plan is to undertake a series of improvements to the delivery of primary school education. The first phase of their improvement programme is a proposal to merge Lenzie Primary School and Lenzie Moss Primary School. This will involve
•building a new school on the Lenzie Moss site,
•the closure of Lenzie Primary School, and,
•the demolition of the existing Lenzie Moss Primary School
This proposal is at the stage of statutory consultation with a closure date for comments of Wednesday 26 June 2013.
We believe that the proposed merger is flawed due to issues including but not limited to,
•Exacerbation of the existing traffic congestion around the school site.
•Delivery of improved educational benefit can be gained through improvements to the existing buildings without an estimated £9.2m new build cost.
•Smaller schools provide development benefits in addition to educational goals.
•The loss of Lenzie Primary School will have an adverse impact on local shops through loss of footfall.
•The centre of Lenzie will lose its identity.
•The argument that the school roll is falling is flawed due to the ongoing new build in Lenzie and Kirkintilloch.
The purpose of this petition is to ask East Dunbartonshire Council to cease their proposal to merge these primary schools in recognition of the validity of our arguments.
