The current government in Pakistan has been formed by ousting the elected (as a result of general elections held in 2018) former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan after a no-confidence vote in the parliament.

The current government has come to the power without people's mandate. Non-elected public officials make decisions that are largely outside the purview of elected officials.

It is well understood that ruling governments in third-world countries often use their power to mold the government resources and machinery to their benefit. Hence, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said that it cannot hold the polls and general elections before May 2023[i].

But according to the constitution of Pakistan, the Election Commission of Pakistan is bound to hold elections after 90 days of dissolving the national assembly[ii].

The people of Pakistan have demanded early elections as evident from the current Gallup survey held on 22 April 2022[iii]. Nearly 70% of people have demanded snap elections.

Pakistanis living abroad have strong connections with Pakistan as our families or extended families are living in Pakistan. Therefore, we request the UK government to request the Pakistani Government to go for elections to fulfill the people’s mandate and prevail in democracy in Pakistan.
