Fire Restrictions and/or Close Coconino National Forest until Fire Danger Dimishes

The winter of 2013-2014 has been one of the driest winters on record in Northern Arizona (The National Weather Service office in Bellemont said that Flagstaff received just 19.3 inches of snowfall — the equivalent of 1.95 inches of precipitation — between Dec. 1 and Feb. 28; the period meteorologists refer to as winter) with the eighth dryest February since 1895.
The dry winter conditions have significantly increased the fire danger, as evidenced by the number of early fires that have already occured as this petition is being prepared on April 12, 2014. The Forest Superivor has not called for any fire restrictions or closures at this time.
This petitition is to urge the US Forest Service Coconino National Forest Supervisor, Earl Stewart, to immediately raise the level from Moderate to High Fire Danger in the Flagstaff and Mogollon Rim Ranger Districts (as it is already in the Red Rocks District, to immediately enact fire restrictions, and to consider closing the forest to recreation until the daner is signficantly dimished.
