Why this petition matters

Started by Andrew Barnett

In January of 2022, Queen Elizabeth II revoked all military titles and all titles within her power from Prince Andrew, in the wake of the U.S. courts proceeding with a civil case against him with allegations of sexual assault brought by Virginia Giuffre.

In the days and weeks that have followed many institutions with ties to Prince Andrew have severed those ties, however the title of Earl of Inverness still belongs to the prince.

If the power to remove such a title rested with the Queen, it seems clear that the title of Earl of Inverness would no longer rest of the shoulders of Prince Andrew. As it stands, the power to revoke this title rests in the hands of the government.

While a handful of local politicians and councillors have gone on record saying they believe that the Prince should be stripped of the title "Earl of Inverness" the majority appear to be silent, while one council spokesperson said: "We have no comment, it is a matter for the Palace. “ a statement which is factually incorrect. It is a matter for the parliament which makes it a matter for the people. Staying silent on this matter sends an archaic message that victims of sexual abuse will not be taken seriously, and in turn is a huge step backwards in what has been a tediously slow crawl away from rape culture.

Stand with me, and sign this petition, which will be sent to the highland council, our local MP's, MSP's, westminster and Hollyrood. Let them know that you want more than silence, more than passing the buck to the palace and more than sound bites - you want action!
