Get Eaglecrest Girls Swim and Dive New Blocks
The Eaglecrest girls swim and dive team has had the same blocks since the pool was built (in the '90s). These blocks are old and the paint is chipping off of them. On top of that, the electric things in the block no longer connect to our scoreboard, and so we must connect our own wires that lay all over the deck. Not only is this a safety concern (I myself have tripped on them many times), it also just makes our school look bad. The wires, combined with chipping paint, do not send a good message.
Other than just looks, the blocks keep injuring swimmers. Due to the way they are designed, with the step under the actual block, there is no way to get out without hitting your legs on the block or scraping them. The blocks are made of a sandpaper-like material. Many of our swimmers have legs covered in cuts and bruises from our blocks. Smacking your leg on the block right before a race is not exactly a recipe for success. It distracts you and for some, can mess with your mindset.
We have been asking for new blocks for years, yet the message has not gotten through. So many other sports at eaglecrest are constantly receiving new equipment, and we should to. Swim deserves just as much respect as any other sport. So let me say it again, eaglecrest girls swim needs new diving blocks.
