Don't be a disgrace - COMPOST your food waste!

It's time to bring to Episcopal's attention the dire need to compost ALL of the cafeteria's food waste and divert their toxic plastic containers to biodegradable containers.

Composting has multiple BENEFITS: We can convert the school's food scraps and yard waste into organic fertilizer for our campus facilities. Methane emissions can decrease. Landfills will be less concentrated with food waste. Soil will be enriched. Our community can become more self-sufficient and environmentally friendly!

What to compost: food scraps, weeds, leaves, kitchen waste, grass clippings, etc.

The change: The Episcopal Academy should install greater composting facilities to increase the capacity of waste they can compost. Outdoor facilities can be installed behind the cafeteria or near the community garden. Indoor composting models include installing "tumblers", small bins, and even "worm composters" for minuscule table scraps. Most importantly, Episcopal must create a proper outlined program to ensure that ALL cafeteria food waste is composted into usable fertilizer. Another imperative step in achieving the ultimate compostability includes pushing to abolish plastic containers to biodegradable containers to carry lunch meals.
