Why this petition matters

The DVSA have decided to close motorcycle training and testing facilities during the lockdown period, I believe that motorcycle riders, play an important role in keeping the country moving in times such as these. DVSA's stance on closing/stopping motorcycle training during this lockdown period is irresponsible at best. We urge them to reconsider their position and reopen the training centres so that essential workers can get the training they need and continue to do the great work they do safely and legally.

While I appreciate that the Covid-19 pandemic is a serious issue that requires us all to make sacrifices, I am very concerned that the importance of training for essential workers has been overlooked, again.

Previously it has taken the likes of organisations such as MAG and BMF to raise awareness of the plight of motorcyclists and the very important role many of us play in society especially in times such as these.

For instance, emergency response riders (Police, Paramedics etc.) Blood and organ transport riders, Delivery riders bringing equipment and supplies to front line staff.
These all require training, starting with CBT (Compulsory basic training) then MOD1 and MOD2 rider training, then Advanced rider courses, all of which require training at a school/rider training facility.

The current CBT (which most delivery riders rely on) is the MINIMUM required standard for essential riders in whatever category they ride in only lasts for 2 years, so it's highly likely that these will be expiring during this period in some cases, yet this issue seems to have been overlooked.

I urge you to look at this situation, and I ask that you reconsider your position in this matter at the very least allow us, as training providers continue to train at CBT level, this very simple move will allow us to keep essential riders on the road when they are needed most.
