DVLA to remove Women's Marital Status from Driving Licences

DVLA currently make it compulsory for women to have their marital status listed on their driving license. Despite selecting 'no title', DVLA have taken it upon themselves to state Miss/Mrs; men however, just have their name.

DVLA have issued a statement on Twitter to women that have previously complained, defending this by explaining it is to allow its system to determine the sex of the driver. If this were true, the titles Dr and Prof would not be allowed.

Your title is not necessary on your passport so why do DVLA feel the need to discriminate?

This is an overlooked gender equality issue which needs to be addressed by DVLA agreeing to remove this outdated, irrelevant detail.
