We have a shortage of HGV drivers at the moment, and part of this reason is the DVLA are not processing medical licenses or renewed licenses quick enough.
The turn around used to be a couple weeks, now there are people who have been waiting 6 months without their license.
A minority are still able to drive under section 88, which is where their doctor has said they are safe to drive. But some companies won’t accept this, so the drivers cannot work until their license is renewed.
With this shortage in place, we need to ask the DVLA to prioritise getting HGV drivers back on the road with valid licenses!
