There are many reasons why school should be canceled for the days following Spring Break.

1. Precedent - Other schools in the area have already moved classes online. This includes the majority of universities in Florida. UNF and Jacksonville University are included in this number and these schools are IN JACKSONVILLE.

2. Safety of staff - The coronavirus could be potentially deadly for older teachers and staff. The virus has a much higher mortality rate for anyone above 50 years of age. This is a relatively large number of DCPS teachers and staff. For their safety, school should not be continued in the case that it is in Duval.

3. Slow the spread - The coronavirus is airborne and easily spread. Plenty of DCPS students have been on cruises and traveled to theme parks. If the school district sees fit to cancel events such as field trips and student gatherings, it does not make sense to not cancel school which has more people concentrated in small areas. 30+ people have already tested positive for the virus and the number could keep growing if this is not checked. The virus is in St. John's, Alachua, and Nassau. It's safe to say it could be in Duval.

Likely, even after reading this, DCPS will take no action. However, I think it is safe to say school will be canceled in the following week regardless if the situation escalates.
