Major Issues with Dutch Fork Middle School

Dutch Fork Middle harbors teachers and staff who violate the US department of education, do nothing about suicidal and mentally unwell students as well as those who show a blatant disregard for the well being of the people who enroll there. Teachers have publicly shown and announced the grades of their students which violates FERPA regulations. I was able to find this information with a simple search and this regulation has been active since 2008. The teacher should be at the very least informed and talked to if they were somehow not already aware. This behavior is also harmful to the students who are the target of this violation of confidentiality. They end up feeling overly self conscious, depressed and "called out" by their teachers whom the school is telling them is supposed to be a trusted mentor figure. Due to this and distrust between students and their teachers, many students are afraid to even speak out and talk about their experiences.

During my first semester at Dutch Fork I had a mental breakdown. My friends had the natural response of taking me to the school counselors for help because that's what they had been told to do previously. Once I got there they barely even talked to me and just handed me a piece of paper to doodle something on. People I know personally have also had negative experiences with counselors. After being informed by a student that one of their peers was cutting themselves, they did nothing. They didn't talk to the parents, they failed to act.

There have been instances of targeted bullying  toward students. In one instance even driving a person to nearly killing themselves. The school was informed of this and had a talk with the students and parents. The kid who bullied a student to near suicide received absolutely no consequences for their actions. Once again, they failed to act.

Dutch Fork needs to fix the significant issues in their system and with their staff before they should even be respected as a school. The issues are clear and blatant and still, nothing is done. Dutch Fork needs to reform their system before someone commits suicide.
