Sack Professor Adeyeye and Launch Bullying Review
Durham University has been accused of turning a blind eye to bullying after Trevelyan College's Principal was allowed to remain in post, despite complaints of bullying and sexism.
It was reported in The Guardian this morning.
A disciplinary investigation last month upheld several complaints against Prof Adeyeye, including some of misconduct or gross misconduct.
Despite this, he is still in post, and was even allowed to remain on the "Respect Oversight Group" whose job it is to tackle bullying.
One former colleague said they were “close to a breakdown” and would drive home in tears due to Adeyeye’s “venom and nastiness”. Another said he “engendered fear” within colleagues and that Durham was failing to tackle its “bullying problem”.
One former staff member said her colleague was told by HR to enrol on a women in leadership course to 'improve her assertiveness' after first raising concerns about him last year.
Durham University must sack the sexist Professor Adeyeye immediately.
The university must also launch a bullying review to understand how he was kept in post so long after complaints were made - and how to make sure this never happens again.
How long must we wait until women are taken seriously at work?
