The Haldimand County Council would like to sell off the land right on the river front formally occupied by the Dunnville arena, for commercial and residential development by a private corporation. They are suggesting this is a wise choice because of the tax revenue it will bring. These taxes will not go to Dunnville directly but will be given to the County at large, including Caledonia, Cayuga, Hagersville, Jarvis, Selkirk and so forth. Please also keep in mind how many new houses and store fronts are already vacant throughout the town and downtown core. At a previous town meeting, the majority of citizens voted to preserve this location as a green space (and it was an overwhelming majority) but this seems to have been forgotten or ignored. Once this land is sold off, it no longer belongs to the Community. It's gone. This space should be preserved for the community to enjoy (right along the river) and any enhancements to the space should be with this in mind. We should protect the natural beauty of the riverfront, not block even more with yet another condo - This would keep in mind the local people and tourism, a central industry throughout the summer months.
