- - started this petition to Dublin LGFA and

We the players, parents of the 2020 Dublin Under-17 Development Squad, have created this petition to protest against two decisions:

1. The LGFA decision to cancel the Minor ladies All-Ireland competition for the second year in a row. They have also cancelled the championships at under 14 and 16.

2. The decision by the Dublin LGFA to withdraw/prohibit the female Dublin minor football team (and all other female underage teams) for the second year in a row, from competing in Leinster and supporting the LGFA in cancelling the female minor All-Ireland competition in 2021.

Upon receiving an 840 word letter from the LGFA the Dublin county board took the decision to withdraw all teams from Provincial and All-Ireland championships due to "health and safety" concerns due to Covid. However both the Dublin camogie association and all Dublin Male underage GAA teams have resumed games.

The LGFA cited that leaving cert pressure, pressure of playing with adult teams and duel players was the reason for the female teams being cancelled. These issues arise every year at minor level and we find it highly disrespectful to think that a competition as elite as minor championship (which all of us have been striving to play since joining together at under 13's level) should be cancelled due to watery arguments. Do the camogie and minor boys not face the same issues? We feel discriminated against because our male counterparts can take part in these competitions - I guess the 20X20 campaign "If she can't see it, she can't be it" has really lived up to its name here. It is clear to many of us that the LGFA views us as second tier to the boys competitions, who, for the second year in a row have resumed their competitions very successfully with the full support of the GAA.

Yet again the LGFA has created more barriers for us to jump through. How can you represent women in a sport like this when the biggest obstacle to equality is the LGFA itself. Does it not ring true that us females are doing it to ourselves? This is disgraceful yet for a second year in a row, we are not surprised.

Not alone is the LGFA failing with regards to promoting diversity within the game, it is also failing in relation to inclusion. As far as we are aware, there was no consultation between the board and players who have strived toward this privilege to play at such an elite level for your county, training and improving everyday to achieve their dreams, this has now been ripped away from us.

We as minor players, will not stand for being discriminated against by our own association and being treated as second tier. We want the LGFA and the Dublin LGFA board to overturn their decisions immediately and for every minor team in the country be given the opportunity to play the provincial and all Ireland championships this year. This petition is made to represent all age groups and intercounty teams around the country who are affected by these cancellations. Allow us the chance to finish our underage journey together on the pitch and to wear our county jerseys with pride as opposed to looking over our shoulder wondering what other discriminatory decisions the LGFA is going to make next! We encourage every player, parent and supporter from around the country to sign and share this petition.

LET THE GIRLS PLAY!
