Why this petition matters

Started by Conor Bacon

The new skatepark will be a free-to-use, safe, inclusive and family orientated sports facility for users of all ages.

Skateparks are proven to increase health, well-being, community cohesion whilst reducing social exclusion and anti-social behavior. The skatepark will not only benefit skatepark users, it will enhance the north inner city and will be an asset to the whole community.

The north inner city spans from the edge of Phoenix park on Park gate Street and covers Phisbourough, Croke Park and stretches as far as Tolka Quay on the docklands. In an area only 9.59 (KM2)  there are 72,982 inhabitants(According to 2016 Census, 2021 Census postponed until 2022). Here I will insert a relevant quote from John Thompson written for The Irish Times in 2019 whilst highlighting the underlying causes of high crime rate; "Chronic lack of education, lack of facilities, lack of social care and lack of opportunity. In the case of Dublin’s north inner city, the long-term neglect of those factors is clearly the worst of any location in the State". With this statement in mind, a skatepark is absolutely essential to increasing cohesion within the community.

Please sign this petition if you agree. We appreciate all the support and just want opportunity and positivity for the kids, young families and people of the north inner city.
