Why this petition matters

Started by Katie Mac Court

Toilets are closed in many locations around Dublin City including Train stations, Mark's and Spencer's, Mc Donald's, Starbucks and many more.  Places serving food and drink will not allow paying customers to use the bathrooms. They also are rejecting elderly people, which is a disgrace.

Anybody could be suffering from a kidney infection, cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea etc. They also may be very elderly, pregnant or too young to have the strength to hold in their need to go to the bathroom.

It is an absolute insult to the citizens of Ireland that the government and council have portaloos open with only 3 cubicles inside. The queue is going from Stephen's Green Shopping Centre to The Shelbourne Hotel, which is ridiculous and leaving people queuing for long periods of time. Nobody should be expected to queue for so long. This is alsoresulting in young crowds urinating on the street, in people's doorways, in the open parks etc.

The excuse is always hygiene and the virus, but opening the loos or adding extra portaloos is absolutely essential. As usual, those making the decisions are ignoring other health issues, especially mental health. This is a serious issue and must be addressed.
