Reinstate Nicholas Wilson as manager of Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre

Nicholas Wilson has been the manager of the Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre for the past 13 years. The council, in it's wisdom has decided to not renew Nicholas's contract and go down a different path.

The new CEO of Dubbo City Council has put forward a change based on the way City Aquatic centres are run. Not only are we not a city pool the changes he wants to implement will not benefit our community.

The Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre is a pool that caters for the local swimming clubs but more importantly with the recent development of the Splash Pad more and more of the community are enjoying the relaxed environment of the pool.

Nicholas goes above and beyond in his role to ensure all people are welcome and that their experience is one that is enjoyable and safe. People hold birthday parties and celebrations at the pool. Under the new management based you will not be able to bring your own food into the pool. This means the end of birthdays and celebrations. They will demand all food is purchased from the canteen that council will run.

Nicholas works with local schools and schools within the western region to run successful, stress free carnivals. Our school St Laurence's has been involved in learn to swim and swim and survive program for the last 10 years which is all coordinated by Nicholas and his staff. Nicholas has a wonderful relationship with the students and teachers of all schools. I am not sure new management would be willing to jump in the pool and assist a young student who is scared of the water to reassure them they will be safe. Nicholas would do this for our students year after year. Who will be coordinating this program now?

Nicholas has the  respect of his staff and the people that walk through the front gate. If there is an issue or problem at the pool Nicholas deals with it first hand. He knows the people that use the pool and manages the pool so that all enjoy their time.

Nothing is ever too much trouble and I feel council has made a huge mistake with this decision. If they want to see the pool continue to grow then they need to reinstate Nicholas Wilson.

For council to make a decision based on the recommendations from a CEO who is not from our area, has no understanding of the work load that Nicholas deals with, or the number of programs he facilitates is beyond me.
