Agree to terms with Landry Fitness Center for DTS students

As some of you may know, the relationship between DTS and the Landry Fitness Center may be coming to an end, effective Fall 2012. This means that we will no longer have the privilege of exercising at a discounted rate of $55/semester and instead will need to pay full price for a membership (nearly $100/month).
After the survey was taken of DTS students' use of the fitness center, negotiations took place between DTS and the fitness center to open the possibility of not charging a mandatory fee to all students each semester, but instead having the fee be an optional charge. The Landry Center then requested that rates be increased if DTS were to make membership fees optional (depending upon use) on each student's account. DTS then decided that a rate increase would not be beneficial for students and as a result, the relationship between DTS and the Landry Center may be ending.
A lot of students at DTS, both on and off campus, have utilized the discounted membership at the Landry Fitness Center over the years. The fitness center has been a great resource to build relationships with fellow students, burn calories, and stay healthy as we pursue our degree programs. Students realize that a rate increase will most likely occur, but please leave that option open to students rather than ending the relationship completely with the fitness center that has served us well over the years. If this means a rate increase to $100...$125...$150/semester, so be it. But please, allow students to make the choice. Yes, there are other gym membership options in the area, but some are more expensive and most are not as nice as the Landry Fitness Center.
