The current speed limit of 60mph on unclassified, mainly country roads is too fast bearing in mind that a lot of drivers use it as a target speed, rather than a maximum.  If the national speed limit was dropped to MAX 45mph the roads would be safer for vulnerable road users and would give drivers more time to see, and avoid, walkers, horse riders and cyclists,

The speed limit of max 45mph would not apply to A or B roads or motorways.

Better for your journey to take a little longer than to shorten someone's life.
