Drop off/ Pickup in Jackson Heights Elementary School by the cafeteria has been a very difficult situation that occurred last school year. We all thought it would go back to normal going into this new school year but it hasn’t. Because of the change parents have been needing to come to the school almost an hour early just to be in front of the line to pick up their child or children. The line is all the way to the street which makes other drivers frustrated and scared because it could cause an accident. Since the line is so long, some parents decide to park and get off their car which makes a cluster of parents in front of the cafeteria door trying to get their child/ children. Teachers can’t focus or see what cars are waiting because they’re attending the parents by the door, which makes pickup twice as long. Traffic at the school has made it almost impossible to get out of. Sooner or later there’s going to be an accident because of all of the extra cars from TK/ Kindergarten parents. One of the most important reasons is that some of the kids are still in a 5 Point Harness Car Seats which make parents need extra time to buckle in their child but don’t have the time because of feeling pressured by the long line of cars.
