I believe it is ESSENTIAL for drivers to be required to RETAKE their drivers test after turning 60, I believe it will be most effective requiring this every five years.  This is important because on a daily basis I, or a loved one, is nearly involved in an accident due to an older person driving who should not be on the road. It is dangerous and hazardous to children, families, pedestrians, and many others on the road. As we know, when aging you lose many cognitive skills such as eyesight, hearing, critical thinking, and reaction time deteriorates, which can be very dangerous while driving. I believe a driving test should be required and rather than just in a parking lot they must be required to drive on the highway and merge to the most-left lane and then back to the exit safely. For those who fail a test they should be provided free public transportation services, and or discounted uber services or lyft services if they choose. Though this may upset many it is important, as it will make roadways much safer for everyone. It is unfortunate but this is a MUST. For example, getting off at the exit from the highway today I had to drive into the grass to avoid being hit by an older couple who claimed to have “not seen me.” This is something that happens regularly to me, and i’m sure many others. I understand that many people may not want to give up their driving privilege, but it is important to not be selfish. If you are aware that you cannot perform highly while driving, you need to get off the road. You are not only putting yourself, but also others at risk by doing so. So please consider. We can start here, in my home, in Florida, and hopefully other states can follow. I’d like to ask Ron DeSantis to give this a view and see if this is something he can consider as well. If he is willing to push forward, again, we will have people over 60 retaking their drivers test, they will be required to do the regular drivers test and I also suggest we also have them drive on to the highway to the left-most lane and then back to the exit. The highway is another concern for me as well, many times I have been nearly involved in an accident because of older people driving too slow and switching lanes at an unsafe speed/distance.
