Carissimi/e,
I am more than happy to announce the following historical victories that did happen recently:
- The Connecticut School Board reverses their decision to change Columbus Day (and ultimately restore it, of course!) https://www.wtnh.com/news/connecticut/new-london/connecticut-school-board-reverses-columbus-day-name-change/
- The New Jersey School Board reverses as well their decision of changing Columbus Day name https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2021/06/22/randolph-new-jersey-scrap-holiday-names-columbus-day-calendar/5302142001/
- Last but not least, Judge Paula Patrick ruled the decision of Major Kenney to remove the statue as "cleary an abouse of discretion as well as arbitrary action" and lawless. This has been such a great victory since I personally fought to keep the statue and I testify at the Art and Historic commission back in 2020. Even though the majority of people and all of experts from all around the world were in favor in keeping the statue, both decisions ruled to remove the statue. I read with great satisfaction that an authoritarian figure recognized the tyrant actions of Major Kenney and the failures of other institutions "Approving removal [of the statue] without a detailed, expert report containing any quantitative data with respect to the state of the statue and removal thereupon, was clearly erroneous, arbitrary, and inconsistent with the guiding purpose of the Historical Preservation Ordinance,". The first thing I will do when I will be back in Philly is to enjoy a picnic at Marconi Plaza, a place where I can be a proud Italian. https://www.bigtrial.net/2021/08/christopher-columbus-beats-tyrant-mayor.html?fbclid=IwAR3nEJoJ8sgwz1QAzlou_nuYXn3QTJh5gZT6y19D-2C0sz6nJHPTKI58REc
