Why this petition matters

Started by Ava Terrana

We would like to raise awareness about eating disorders in Arlington Public Schools by increasing education and support systems surrounding them. Eating disorders affect many high school students, and we feel that we should normalize talking and teaching about them in school. Some of us feel that APS isn't taking enough action to support students with their unhealthy eating habits, or educating us enough about them. Even if you personally don't have experience with eating disorders, having a proper knowledge about them is important.

While researching this topic we found an article that has ideas of ways schools can improve their proactiveness on this issue. If you are interested in reading it, it is cited below. This source can also help by giving other students outside of APS ideas to present to their schools.

"National Eating Disorders Assn. Issues Strategies for Schools to Identify, Assist Students with Eating Disorders." US Newswire, 24 Sept. 2008. Gale In Context: Middle School, link.gale.com/apps/doc/A185505028/MSIC?u=va_s_007_0162&sid=bookmark-MSIC&xid=5f216e91. Accessed 18 Nov. 2021.

Please, if you agree with us that this issue needs more attention in APS, please sign this so we can take it to our principal. We want our peers that struggle with this in silence to get the help and support they need to evolve into healthy adults.
