WCHCS has now instituted a Mandatory mask Mandate to all Students K-12 as of September 2, 2021. This is a Direct violation of a Parents right to their children's medical decisions. "I believe that a parent knows their child better than the school board knows their child." On Aug. 15, the Texas Supreme Court weighed in, siding with the governor and saying that schools cannot require masks. I believe that mask mandates are unconstitutional violations of the First Amendment, and I know many of you do as well. Mask mandates violate an individual's constitutional right to liberty – defined by a leading legal resource as "freedom from arbitrary and unreasonable restraint upon an individual." We as parents in a Free society need to reinforce that and stand together and make our voices heard.
The purpose of this petition is to empower parent's voices to be heard and for us as parents to make these decisions, not the Superintendent or the school board for that matter. If students want to wear masks that is up to them and their parents or guardians not the school. Children shouldn’t be subjected to learning with the distraction of a mask or penalized for not wearing one.
