As a student who's been attending Troy School District schools from the age of 7 to now, I would need 10 hands to count even a small percentage of the racist/racially insensitive things I have experienced and witnessed in this school district. I have seen, and in some cases experienced, many examples of anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, anti-Asian and anti-Black beliefs performed not only by students, but also by the staff. In my personal experiences and in the experiences of my peers, the people performing these anti acts have rarely ever been held accountable, and if they were it was to a very small degree. As a student having two more years left at Troy High School, there needs to be a change. Silence and placation is no longer acceptable. The closet racists and the out in the open ones need to be held accountable to the highest degree for their actions. Troy School District advertises itself as a safe place for students of all backgrounds-until these issues are directly addressed, that will never be the case.
