We, the students of Michigan Technological University, will no longer stand for the university’s blatant disregard of individual liberties granted to every student by the Constitution of the United States of America. How one chooses to conduct themselves in regards to personal health and safety is the decision of each individual and not of a governing body. 

The 9th amendment of the Constitution states that “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people,” meaning that rights retained by the people not explicitly written in the Constitution shall not be denied. These include the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as stated in the Declaration of Independence. The MTU Flex Task Force has imposed mandatory mask and vaccine mandates that deprive every MTU student, faculty member, and employee of these freedoms. In addition to these violations, the members of this task force have broken their loyalty oath to “support the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of the State of Michigan '' as stated in chapter 4.1 of MTU’s policies manual. 

Huskies, it is time to hold our university accountable and demand the restoration of our unalienable rights. We call on the university’s administration to immediately lift all mandates and restrictions implemented by the MTU Flex Task Force.
