Reducing the volume of traffic through Bryncethin to improve health and safety

We call upon the Welsh Assembly Government and Bridgend County Borough Council to give serious and urgent planning consideration for the construction of a by-pass for the village of Bryncethin, similar to other schemes evident in the Bridgend area (i.e. Coity), together with a call for immediate actions to calm traffic volume in the meantime.
For too long the residents of Bryncethin have been blighted by high volumes of traffic along the whole stretch of the A4061. It causes many concerns for individuals and families including;
- significant danger to children and parents attempting to cross the road to access Bryncethin Primary School
- significant danger to all residents crossing the road or walking where there are no pedestrian pavements
- significant risk to personal health due to increased air pollution, traffic speed and excess noise
- constant gridlock at peak times preventing access onto the A4061 from residents drives and roads such as those from Wigan Terrace, Daleside and Sarn
The increased volume over the last 30 years has been caused by the approval of large shopping outlets in the local area, new housing schemes and the expansion of Brynmenyn Industrial Estate without proper and robust consultation with regards to the impact upon the residents of Bryncethin.
We call upon both government and local authority to examine this matter with urgency and make plans to improve the current situation.
