Will Hanna started this petition to Dr. Michael Hawkins and

My name is Will Hanna and I am a Creighton University alumni. I am writing this petition because I have recently been informed that the History Department at Creighton University is considering cutting back or even eliminating their Native Studies courses due to budgetary concerns. As a Liberal Arts University, I think that it is important to offer/require a multitude of classes that cover a variety of disciplines. Creighton currently offers African studies, Latin American studies, and more cultural studies courses, but Native Studies, specifically, is being considered for cuts. Native studies is not only a crucial part of history, but it is a crucial part of OUR history as Nebraskans and Americans. I personally took Native American History with Dr. Pam Bennett, and it changed the way I thought about my education and about my life. This class alone generally has 3 full classes each semester, so the budgetary concerns are NOT for a lack of interest. It would be an absolute tragedy if Creighton were to cut these classes from their University, so I hope that this petition can work in favor of saving Native Studies at Creighton! Thank you to anyone and everyone who signs this petition, let us never forget how much Native Americans have done and do for us today!
