Exclude Verletta White as Permanent BCPS Superintendent and Give BCPS More Time to Search

This petition seeks two things:
1. Verletta White NOT to be chosen as the next permanent superintendent of BCPS
2. Give BCPS an extension of another year with a new interim superintendent to allow time for a proper search

Ms. White is not the right choice to lead BCPS
There are many concerns about both Ms. White's ethics and judgment as well as her leadership of BCPS. From her questionable involvement in meetings with ed tech vendors to her failure to disclose outside income and her unwavering commitment to carry out initiatives started under Dallas Dance (such as STAT and the new grading policy) despite the many concerns expressed by stakeholders, Ms. White has repeatedly shown poor judgment and questionable ethics. In addition, under her leadership thus far as Interim Superintendent, there continues to be fierce division among stakeholders and an unwillingness on the part of BCPS leadership to genuinely consider questions and input from stakeholders, most especially from those who disagree with them. Many stakeholders feel ignored or dismissed and there is an atmosphere of frustration. These are all signs of ineffective leadership. It is time for change and a new direction for BCPS. Ms. White is not the right person to lead BCPS.

BOE needs more time to conduct a proper search for the next superintendent
The BCPS Board of Education, under the leadership of Board Chair Edward Gilliss, has neglected its duty to conduct a thorough, well-planned, and transparent search for the next permanent superintendent. The BOE failed to begin the search process in time to allow the 6 months or more needed for a proper search, despite having more than a year from Dr. Dance's resignation announcement to when the new superintendent needed to be in place. The BOE offered only minimal opportunity for stakeholder input—one public forum for the entire county and a couple of weeks of online input, both very poorly publicized—effectively excluding the majority of stakeholders from the process. The neglect of the BOE has led to a situation in which Ms. White appears to become the only viable candidate left as they make this last-minute decision. This is NOT how such an important decision that will have a significant impact on the school system for years to come should be made. The BCPS community needs more time to correct the neglect of duty by the BOE and make a decision that is well thought out and allows for ample stakeholder input.
