MCPS students are taking online classes, unfortunately.
They are being forced to stay on a screen for 8 hours straight. With COVID-19 cases rising fast and deaths rising just as fast, staying home is most ideal for parents and students. Yet, 8 hours is not mentally, nor physically safe. It has been shown that not only students are being affected but teachers as well.
Constantly staring at a screen for 8 hours straight has caused mental, emotional, and even physical stress and pain on everyone. Even when classes end, students still have homework that is (usually) on a deadline and teachers must prep their next lesson for the students. This just leads to more pain.
We ask for MCPS Superintendent Dr. Jack R. Smith and Governer Larry Hogan to shorten the school hours.
3-4 hours of digital school could mean better academic focus, less pressure on teachers and students, and more time for teachers to take care of their family, responsibilities, etc. It’s important to realize that this new to everyone, students are having a harder time learning and teachers are having a harder time teaching. The excessive amount of hours only makes it more difficult.
We ask you to sign this petition for students & teachers so that students can thrive, and relax, and teachers can take some time to take a break.
