When we see or read news about bomb blast, in majority of the cases, it translates to number of casualties. Here is the
true story of a young man, who was a victim of a bomb blast in the year 2004, his pain and sufferings for the last eight years.
Nabajyoti Hazarika (35 years, Dergaon, Assam) a 1999 B. Sc. (Agri) and 2001 M. Sc. (Agri) from Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat was critically injured in a bomb blast on 24 June 2004 in Sonari, Sivasagar, Assam. Nabajyoti was travelling by a bus to attend a job interview and a bomb exploded just above his bus seat, as a result Nabajyoti received serious head injury. He was taken to a hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam and was battling for his life and was in coma for one month. He has partially recovered, but lost his memory, voice, left eye and functionality of some of his body parts.
In between he lost his father due to cancer. Nabajyoti’s younger brother Arunjyoti decided to study physiotherapy, so as to help his brother in his recovery and after completion of the physiotherapy course, with his brother’s effort, Nabajyoti has recovered to some extent.
After eight long years, he has partially regained his memory, but has not regained his voice and some parts of his body are not yet properly functional. At this time, speech/voice therapy is supposed to bring his voice back.
Nabajyoti's present condition:
Need to continue Speech therapy.
Need to Continue Physiotherapy.
Need an operation of his ear, as his ear drum has a hole due to the metallic splinters.
Last year (September 2011) during AAU Alumni Meet, Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma assured support for Nabajyoti’s treatment and rehabilitation.
