Elizabeth Davis started this petition to Dr. Domencic & the Cornwall-Lebanon School District

The Cornwall-Lebanon School District is proposing cuts to the Library/Computer programs in the elementary schools as well as the elimination of special area classes in Kindergarten as an educator and parent of an elementary age student I am asking the board to reconsider these cuts.

Library & Computer programs are essential to schools and provide our students with the skills they need for the future. These programs encourage creativity, inquiry, collaboration as well as support the Common Core Standards.  Also research has proven that school library programs improve student achievement.  Schools where library programs were cut or eliminated have shown a decrease in reading scores.

Not only are libraries and computer classes necessary but qualified individuals such as librarians and computer teachers are essential positions within a school. These individuals are leaders within a school by teaching both staff and students how to utilize new technology, and evaluate information for accuracy and impartiality.

In addition, to eliminate art, music, library, physical education and computers for our youngest learners is wrong.  Students need these classes to develop social skills, gross motor skills, and listening skills.
