Piper Sullivan started this petition to Dr. Delesa Styles of Permian High School

Getting rid of the cats at Permian High School is not a good idea from the start. They do so much for the school and students and staff alike. They’re used for learning opportunities and bring up the student morale during the school day. The famous botanical garden is a favorite place for some of the cats, as they watch student life through the big windows. They’re important for a bigger reason too. Anyone can tell you that the mice, rats, and even bats are a big problem for the high school. These rodents can carry diseases and germs, which is detrimental, especially in the midst of a pandemic. Cats take care of a majority of this problem, creating a arguably safer environment for the students and staff, over getting rid of them and taking chances with the rodents. Even further, local organizations have volunteered to trap, spay/neuter, vaccinate, and release the cats, making them that much more safer around people. This begs the question that is easily answered. Do we keep our awesome cat helpers or do we let the rodent problem in the school pose a bigger threat to the building and it’s students and staff?
