Bartlett City Schools should have an inclement weather day for the solar eclipse

A full solar eclipse is happening in Nashville and Chattanooga Tennessee. Many schools in Tennessee have already closed for this once in a lifetime event, however Bartlett City Schools hasn't. If we have school that day, then students will remember the event as another day in the classroom. If Bartlett City Schools allow a day off, they champion a special family memory. My parents are both teachers, so they have to teach other people's children, instead of seeing their kids faces fill with wonder over the solar eclipse. Teachers can teach about it, but not even the best teacher can compete with experience. By allowing a day, the district will champ over science and teach students participation is better then just reading about it. It will also show pupils how to learn things for themselves. Students are more engaged and curious when they see it happening first hand and our standards focus on experience and application. Children are told to get off their phones and experience what's happening around them, so maybe we should cancel school and experience this rare phenomenon.
