Yesterday the city of Mishawaka told me that 4 dogs is the limit per household. I bought my 4 annual dog licenses and all was good. Today an animal control officer with a police escort came to my home and said that they made a mistake. There are only 3 pets (including cats and dogs) allowed per household in the city of Mishawaka, Indiana. They told me that I have 14 days to get rid of one of my dogs. They also had me schedule a property walk-through inspection within 14 days with their officer and I'm guessing a police search. Five miles away in the city of South Bend, there are no restrictions on how many pets per household. Four miles in the opposite direction, the town of Osceola allows 5 pets per household. All of these cities are within St Joseph County, Indiana.  I have a new rescue Great Dane. She is 5 years old. I got her spayed today at Magrane Animal Hospital. I am from Osceola and recently got married and moved to Mishawaka. I did not know the animal limit was 3. My babies get the best care and my oldest dog is 13 years old. If the city forces me to get rid of one of my kids then it will have to be my old grumpy girl. I call her grumpy Greta lol. I don't think it is fair to do that to her since she is almost blind and can't walk far without falling over. I am asking for an exemption for a frail old dog that is not a threat to anyone.
