Maintain choir and band at Mill Creek Middle School! Music for ALL!

The Kent School District community has a history of supporting music education, but the Kent School District has a mixed record of honoring that support. The Kent-Meridian High School Choir, Band, and Orchestra programs are growing and improving every year, but continued success depends on the middle school programs being strong as well.
This coming year, Mill Creek Middle School is currently eliminating choir and reducing orchestra to a combined 7th/8th grade class and reducing band to a combined 7th/8th grade class.
We present the evidence that by all conventional standards, they have the numbers to sustain the current class offerings. We believe that it is not okay to take music away from our kids without a fair and transparent process. We ask you, the Kent School District, how can we claim to "successfully prepare all students for their futures" if we do not offer the same equitable access to music education that other schools offer? We are here to say that our music classes are important to the parents, our children, and the future of our community.
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to reinstate the Choir class and return the previous amount of band and orchestra classes for the incoming music teacher for the 2017-2018 year.
