In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Centenary University has elected to cancel this year’s on-campus Commencement events, scheduled for May 9. This decision came in response to the CDC's recommendation against any public gatherings of more than 250 people for the next two months. While we understand the increasingly critical situation and health risk that the virus presents, we are absolutely dismayed to learn that Centenary is not attempting to reschedule our Commencement celebration to a later date. Graduate students, undergraduate students, executive education, and doctoral students alike will not have the opportunity to walk across the stage and be handed the diploma that they have worked so hard for. No tossing of the caps, no pictures with our college friends- all of these precious moments have been denied to us. Graduating from a university is a once in a lifetime experience that commemorates not only the hard work of students, but also the sacrifice of their families and relatives to afford them the opportunity of education. Please sign this petition so that Centenary will reinstate the most treasured tradition for the adversely affected Class of 2020
