We must not lose ITALIAN in New Rochelle Elementary Schools!
Sign this petition to tell New Rochelle School District to keep Italian language and culture in the elementary schools. Children in New Rochelle start learning Italian in Kindergarten at Barnard school, and continue taking Italian through fifth grade. Their Italian studies continue in Middle School, and High School.
FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary School) benefits our children in different ways: Develops students’ cognitive skills and supports other content areas such as reading and math. Provides a better understanding of the English language. Strengthens problem solving capabilities and increases memory function. Increases readiness and boosts confidence for world language studies in middle school, high school and college. Learned language skills are transferable to other languages. Increases global awareness and cultural understanding. World language education is considered one of the most important 21st century skills we can provide our children as they prepare to live and work in a global society.
Let’s save ITALIAN, the language of Dante, one of the world’s greatest poets, the language of artists such as Michelangelo Buonarroti, scientists such as Leonardo da Vinci.
