Daily Study Hall

Dear Grady family,
As you may know, due to the class time lost over the extended break, our Superintendent has decided to give a poll as to let the people decide over how to compensate. The results have prompted the District officials to enforce a 30 minute extension to the end of the school day making dismissal at 4:00 pm rather than 3:30 pm. The resulting additional time to each class would be an insignificant 7 minutes to a current 90 minute class. To promote Grady work ethic and higher academic achievement, I would like to propose a daily 30 minute Study hall. The details of scheduling are to be decided upon later however a daily study would provide more benefits to students rather than 7 minutes to each class. A mandatory in school study hall benefits students understanding of the given curriculum, allows for more after school time for extracurricular activities, and promotes better student time management. Look to principal David Chambers of Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Montebello, California. Low grades and test scores threatened his job and the jobs of teachers in the school, in a last ditch effort he instituted a mandatory school-wide study hall in hopes to turn the trend around. Within months he saw a GPA increase in half a point, an increase in honor roll students from 32% to 50% and a boost in teacher morale. However, Chambers is not a rare case. Schools across the nation have joined the trend and numbers have been skyrocketing. It is in the students and faculty's best interest to improve scores and grades, study hall has and will solve. Since we have the extra time, lets do something more meaningful with it.
