Sir/ Mam, I am The Member of Parliament of Republic of Hindu college,Delhi University. The only institution in India to have student parliament and also the oldest parliamentary institution in India. Even the Ex prime minister Atal Bihari vajpayee remarks about Hindu college that " India has only two parliament Indian parliament and Hindu college parliament".We proclaimed ourselves as Republican institution in 1935.The parliament became a centre for intellectual debate during India's Freedom struggle especially during Quit India Movement. In fact the college remained closed for several months in1942, responding to Gandhiji's call to students and teacher to join the Movement . During this period some teachers and students of the college , even went to prison. Its amphitheatre at kashmere gate provided stage for scintillating speeches by famous leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, Annie Besant, Mahatma Gandhi, Pt Madan Mohan Malviya, Sarojini Naidu, Mohamed Ali Jinnah, Motilal Nehru, Jawahar lal Nehru and other on many occasions. For example In 1938, in an extraordinary session of the parliament, prem chand moved a resolution, "That in the opinion of this House, all the communal organization of the country should be dissolved forthwith to join hand with the congress in the interest of a united Nationalist Programme "..Thr popularity of the college parliament was so great that a team from the British Broadcasting corporation (BBC) came to make the documenary on the working of parliamentary institutions in India. Hindu college was among the institute selected to show the working of democracy at grass roots level. But my heart is imbued with deep sorrow when I feel helpless on national and college issue where I don't have any say even after being the MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT of Republic of Hindu , the oldest parliament in India. Due to many reasons the culture of parliamentary session on discussing national and college issue has completely extinct. So in my attempt to revive the culture and discuss national and college issue. I request you to join hand for parliamentary session . It would be a great help to boost the democratic spirit in students.
Don't you want our Parliament to be a true parliament?
Let's begin this change from our very own institution that reflects this nation. Please sign the petition if you agree
