Problem
We have grown used to a society that is plagued with mental illness and violence. It is time we start creating a better future for our youth.

Solution
By making mental health/self-care part of the Indiana K-12 education curriculum, children will be trained on social and emotional learning (SEL), mental illness, and coping with childhood trauma. New York and Virginia have already agreed to this curriculum, and Indiana should adopt similar policies. Educating the nation's youth on mental health will make them overall more self-aware when making decisions and managing their emotions.

Personal story
I am Brooke Townsend, a Psychology major from Indiana. I work closely with today's youth, and help them battle their personal struggles. Throughout my years of study and counseling, I have learned how desperately the youth of the nation need help coping with the troubles life has handed them and understanding their emotions. I have concluded through my studies that making mental health a part of a child's education will allow them to live a healthier life.
