George Washington High School in DPS needs to add more diversity into the history classes. Every student wants to be represented in what they are learning. GWHS needs to add Hispanic American history into the choice of studies so students have an opportunity to learn about history that isn’t just focused on white culture. Hispanic American history is the history of Latinos in the United states in more than 400 years of American colonial and post-colonial history. It is important we talk about the impact the Latix community made in America that we do not discuss in average history classes. Currently GWHS offers geography and civics, US history, AP US history, law/personal finance, borderland experience - CE history of the american west, CE sociology/ethnic studies, IB global politics, IB business management, IB psychology, IB economics 1 and 2 , world history 1 and 2, and IB theory of knowledge. Although GW offers a variety of classes the classes lack diversity in what is being taught. Teachers who already work at GW are willing and interested in teaching classes like Hispanic American history, in order to teach more diversity to students. Sign this petition to show interest in bringing back these classes, this will not only help show GW that students are interested in Hispanic American history but will also help us push for  more culturally diverse social studies classes at George in the future.
